If you opened Extension Management in Business Central this summer and found an app called "insightsoftware Reporting for Business Central" where "Jet Reports Business Central" used to be, you are not alone, and nothing is wrong. On 16 September 2026 the same vendor went a step further and started shipping the Jet installer under a new company name, Lineos. This post puts the changes in order, with dates and version numbers, and explains what they mean for a controller who has a few hundred Jet workbooks to keep running.
Jet Reports has not been discontinued. The Excel add-in, the NL, NF and GL functions, and the Business Central extension all continue, and version 26.3.0 shipped on 16 September 2026. What changed is the naming around the product: the Business Central extension was renamed to "insightsoftware Reporting for Business Central" on 22 June 2026, insightsoftware launched a cloud layer called Reporting Intelligence on 16 June and describes it as "the next evolution of Jet Reports", and on 16 September insightsoftware split itself into three brands, with the finance products moving under Lineos. Your existing reports keep working. Three things are worth a look: the extension name and version in Business Central, the new documentation domain, and the wording of your next renewal quote.

insightsoftware announced Reporting Intelligence on 16 June 2026 as "a cloud-based reporting solution that connects ERP data to Excel and automatically surfaces AI insights and alerts." The announcement names Jet Reports and Spreadsheet Server as the data foundation underneath it and lists Oracle, SAP and Microsoft as the ERP families it works with. The Jet Reports product page now carries the line "Reporting Intelligence, the next evolution of Jet Reports" for Business Central Cloud users, and describes it as adding live KPI monitoring, threshold-based alerts and AI-generated insights on top of the Excel workflow. Jet Reports 26.2 shipped the same day.
Six days later, the Business Central extension release notes record one change for extension version 1.26.6.1631, paired with Jet Reports 26.2.0.1662: "Renamed the 'Jet Reports Business Central' extension to 'insightsoftware Reporting for Business Central'." That is the whole entry. There is no functional change listed, which is why an administrator who updates the app from AppSource sees a new name and the same behaviour. The AppSource listing itself now carries the new title as well.
Jet Reports 26.2.1, released 7 July, is the one Business Central cloud users should actually care about. According to the Jet Reports 2026 release notes, it resolved an issue where "authentication to shared Business Central Public Cloud data sources failed when MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) was enabled" and updated the MFA configuration screens in Jet Hub for Business Central Public Cloud data sources. The same release moved every documentation link from go.jetreports.com to hop.insightsoftware.com. If your internal how-to guides link to the old domain, they will need updating. Version 26.2.2 followed on 14 July with an installer fix for 32-bit Office.
On 16 September insightsoftware announced three specialised brands: Lineos for the office of the CFO, Certent for equity management, and Simba for embedded data and analytics, with insightsoftware remaining as the portfolio company that provides "unified infrastructure, ongoing innovation investment, and shared customer support." The press release does not mention Jet Reports or Business Central by name.
The Jet Reports 26.3.0 release notes of the same day do, in practical terms: the registry publisher entry for the Reporting Intelligence installer changed "from insightsoftware Inc. to Lineos", the Lineos logo now appears on the licence agreement screen, the About page links to Lineos resources, the "Jet Reports Snippets" folder was renamed "Report Snippets", and Reporting Intelligence admin and power user roles are now mapped to a viewer licence in the Jet Excel add-in. The same release disabled explicit NTLM authentication in favour of Kerberos and tightened two Jet Hub endpoints.
So a Business Central user in September 2026 can see four names on one product: Jet Reports in the add-in ribbon, insightsoftware Reporting for Business Central in Extension Management, Reporting Intelligence on the licence screen, and Lineos as the installer publisher. None of that is a defect. It is a company reorganising its portfolio while the product underneath keeps its version numbering.
Your workbooks do not know about any of this. An NL("Rows") over G/L Entry (table 17) filtered on a posting date range behaves in 26.3 as it did in 26.1, and the GL function still returns balances from the same account and dimension filters. The Business Central extension still publishes the web services the add-in reads, the Jet Hub still schedules and distributes, and reports saved in Design Mode still open in Report Mode for colleagues who only have a viewer licence. If you run Business Central on-premises, the extension name change is the only thing you will notice. If you run Business Central online with MFA enforced, 26.2.1 or later is the version to be on.
The one behavioural change to test is the role mapping in 26.3.0. If some of your colleagues were given Reporting Intelligence admin or power user roles during a trial or rollout, those roles now map to a viewer licence inside the Jet Excel add-in. Check that the people who need to design reports still can before the next close.
This is the checklist we would give a Business Central administrator this week.
Three questions remain open on insightsoftware's own pages, and it is fair to say so rather than guess.
The first is the roadmap. "The next evolution of Jet Reports" is the vendor's wording, and its own explainer on that phrase says Reporting Intelligence brings "the same Excel workflows, same deep Microsoft ecosystem integration" into a cloud platform. It does not say whether the on-premises Jet add-in will be maintained indefinitely alongside it, migrated, or eventually retired. Until that is written down, the safe assumption is that both exist and that new features land in Reporting Intelligence first.
The second is licensing. Reporting Intelligence roles now map to a viewer licence in the Excel add-in, which suggests the two products share a licence model, but the release notes do not say what a Reporting Intelligence subscription costs relative to a Jet designer or viewer seat. The product page offers "Get Pricing" and no trial.
The third is where Business Central sits in a company that now has three brands and a multi-ERP reporting layer spanning Oracle, SAP and Microsoft. The 16 September press release does not mention Business Central. That is not a criticism, but for a controller whose only ERP is Business Central it is worth noticing which products get named in a vendor's announcements and which do not.
Renewal is when most of this becomes concrete, so put three questions to your account manager in writing.
First, what exactly is being renewed: Jet Reports designer and viewer seats as before, a Reporting Intelligence subscription, or both, and which line items change price. Ask for the renewal on the same basis as last year so you can compare like with like.
Second, what the migration path to Reporting Intelligence looks like for a Business Central Cloud customer, whether it is optional, and whether your existing NL, NF and GL workbooks run unchanged inside it. The vendor's material says the Excel workflows are the same; ask them to demonstrate that on one of your own reports.
Third, whether the problem you actually have is solved by any of this. A rename does not make a 4,000-function trial balance run faster, does not let a viewer change a filter in a shared report, and does not lift the worksheet row limit. If those are your pains, they are questions about architecture rather than branding, and they deserve a proper look at alternatives during the renewal window rather than after it.
